Warung - An Indonesian Restaurant in Kapitolyo, Pasig

Kapitolyo is one of the famous food haven in Metro Manila. It was a residential area, but more and more home owners and business minded people have been converting their homes into businesses.

The idea of turning residential areas into a business site has mixed reactions. Others would think it will only make the area crowded, loud, and busy. Privacy for home owners is also at stake because of the people coming in and out of the village. But for some, it's a great way to earn without having to leave your home.

Kapitolyo, for me, is not like Maginhawa Street in Quezon City. It's more quiet and upscale because it's located at the center of Mandaluyong and Ortigas Business Districts, so you'll expect working people and other families coming here. It's not loud and heavily crowded, which is what I always look for.

We want to try a different cuisine, and this is the place that piqued my interest while I was looking over the web - Warung.

The place itself seemed a little intimidating because of its somehow aristocratic look like you were actually going to dine in to one of the finest restaurant in Indonesia.

But as we stepped inside, the staff greeted us warmly and led us to our seats. As we browse the menu, surprisingly, the food isn't overpriced as we expected.

As you open the menu, you'll know the meaning of Warung.

The look of the restaurant inside is very welcoming, you will feel as you are part of their family. The design and interiors are simple but you will definitely know for sure that it's Indonesian themed.

Bakmi Goreng (Php 195) is an Indonesian style fried noodles as the description says, and I was surprised that it wasn't really fried, which is a good thing. I thought it would be like crispy noodles type. I like the texture of the noodles and the overall taste. It's got lot of sahog in it so by just this dish, we felt already half full. 😂

Nasi Goreng (Php 185) is a perfect rice. I can say they cooked the rice perfectly - not sticky nor too dry. Perfect for fried rice.

Satay Ayam (Php 195) --- I was hesitant to try it at first mainly because of the word peanut. I don't really like peanuts but I gave it a shot because why not? Kare-Kare is also somehow a dish with peanut butter so I tried. And I'm happy I did! The chicken is tender, not dry, no weird taste, marinated just right. Still not fan of the peanut sauce, but I can dip it in a little.

Ikan Bakar (Php 325) I forgot the fish they used here, but it's definitely not tilapia - and it's really good! Glad that we ordered this because it balances the taste of the others that we ordered. It is accompanied by a spicy tomato based pair.

Es Buah Naga & Nanas (Php 120) I love fresh fruit shakes only if it is not soaked with sugar. Glad that this healthy fruit shake isn't soaked with sugar. I taste natural sweetness from Dragon Fruit and Pineapple.

Es Buah-Buah (Php 95) I got to taste this, and also am glad to know this isn't like other shakes that's soaked with sugar. Tastes very refreshing.

This is a legit, authentic, Indonesian food. We got the chance to talk to the owners because - man, they are super friendly and very hands on. They visited every guest that night and asked about their dining experience. We felt like we were their family friend invited over a nice dinner.

If you're not a fan of spicy food, and if you are not in for a legit Indonesian cuisine, you will probably not appreciate this. I'm not a fan of spicy food myself as well and had to ask the noodles to reduce the spiciness but after I've tasted it, I actually felt I needed to mix more chilli sauce. It compliments the dish.

The whole dining experience is lovely. The owners, the staff, the food, the place - everything is lovely and welcoming. I'd like to come back here for a hearty good meal.

Go and visit this place, you'll have no regrets.
